”Vapaus” is a short film made for Kaikki Kuvaa 2024 -short movie competition. The short films script was written by Jere Vorne. The production team for the short film includes Leevi Mäntyvaara, Jere Vorne, Miia Mahlakaarto, Yaren Göz and Maiju Herranen. Main role in the short film is played by Yaren Göz. The short film ”Vapaus” tells the story about media and how it may cause people anxiety. I worked in the production of the short film as a producer and production assistant.
Short film pre-production
We heard about the competition from our teacher and we were immediatelly very interested about it. First thing we did was choosing who is in the production group. The next day we had our first meeting with the production team and we started planning the plot. After that Jere Vorne started to write the script. We started planning in the production group filming locations and cast and everything else we had to plan before we could film.
Filming
We filmed the short film in 4 days. On the first day of shooting, we filmed scenes in the morning at the main character’s workplace and in the afternoon at the Tuira dam in Oulu. On the second day, we filmed scenes taking place at the main character’s home. The shooting went well, but after the first two days, we decided to change the filming location from the Tuira dam and reshoot the final scene elsewhere. We made this decision because we were not satisfied with how the location looked on camera. On the third day, we filmed a few more shots at the main character’s workplace and the final scene at a riverbank in Oulu. On the fourth and final day, we filmed in front of a green screen at our school for a couple of shots where the main character experiences a panic attack.
Post-production
In post-production, the film was handled by Jere Vorne, Yaren Göz and Miia Mahlakaarto. Jere Vorne and Yaren Göz edited the short film, while Miia Mahlakaarto provided the graphics. Once the short film was completed, it was submitted to the Kaikki kuvaa 2024 short film competition.
Kaikki kuvaa 2024 kilpailu:
We participated with a short film in the Kaikki kuvaa 2024 competition. We won the first prize, decided by the jury, in our age group (16-23 years). The winners were announced at the Kaikki kuvaa gala held in Helsinki on May 11.
